On Saturday 29th April 2017, as part of on going investigations under Operation Thor targeting Burglary and Theft, relating to criminal activity in the South Eastern Region conducted by Gardaí attached to the South Eastern Region, the Drugs & Organised Crime Bureau and the Special Crime Task Force, two vehicles (one stolen) were intercepted at Dublin Port shortly after 7.30pm having arrived from the UK.
During this stop and search operation a large quantity of stolen industrial power tools and gardening machinery were seized and two Irish men, aged 38 and 29 years were arrested for Handling of Stolen Property. The value of the stolen property seized in this investigation is estimated at upward of €50,000. The two men were detained at Irishtown Garda Station under the provisions of Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.
Both men have subsequently been charged in relation to handling offences and are due to appear at the Criminal Courts of Justice this morning, Monday 1st May 2017 at 10.30am. Investigations are on going in conjunction with the UK authorities to identify all the owners of the property seized, which was destined for the Irish black market.
